THE WORLD FAMOUS YORK MEDIEVAL MYSTERY PLAYS 2026

The Scriveners teamed up with a young Ukrainian Group for our contribution to this unique York event.

The Guild traditionally plays a key historic role in the Mystery Plays and this year our presentation, one of ten plays, was "The Massacre of the Innocents', which was movingly performed for us by the DSpace Ukrainian Theatre Company.

The Scriveners have their own vintage flat-back wagon, which they pushed and pulled around four city centre venues on the weekends of late June and early July. Each performance was formally introduced to the crowds by our robed Clerk, Tim Hinton, with our Master, Ian Cuthbertson and his Lady, Carol Runciman looking on.

NEW MEMBERS

The Guild is keen to grow and to attract a new generation of Scriveners.

We were delighted to welcome several new members in recent months.
