Guild of Scriveners of the City of York News

THE NEW MASTER FOR 2023-24

John Jefferson is the Guild's current Master.

He joined the Guild as a professional 'scribe' as a print and broadcast journalist in Northern newspapers and later with the BBC. He set up BBC Radio York as its first Station Manager in 1983 and later became Managing-Editor of BBC Leeds.

He says:" I joined the Scriveners partly because of my interest in the history and traditions of York and partly because I wanted my own professional background to be represented in the Guild-life of the City. I never expected to become the Guild's Master, but I'm delighted to have had the opportunity because it's a unique and fun experience."

NEW MEMBERS

The Guild is keen to grow and to attract a new generation of Scriveners.

We were delighted to welcome several new members in recent months.

The Master's Busy Year

All members have an opportunity during their year to represent the Guild as part of the lively Civic Life of the City of York as well as attending Guild functions outside the city in London and in Richmond, North Yorkshire, where the Scriveners are linked with the town's two Guilds.
